Open rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Before the operation, the patient must undergo the tests prescribed by the surgeon. The main advantage of the open method is that the surgeon can fully see all the structures of the nose during the operation. For this, a small incision is made in the columella area between the nostrils, then the incision continues into the inside of each nostril. The surgeon separates the skin from the cartilage framework, examines the cartilage and bone parts of the nose in detail and gives the desired shape. During the operation, cartilage or bone parts can be removed, their position changed, or special nasal implants installed if necessary. At the end of the operation, the incisions are sutured with fine stitches. Silicone splints are placed inside the nose, a thermoplastic is applied and removed the next day. The rigid plaster cast is usually removed by the doctor on the 14th day. With the open method, the temporarily visible incision is mainly in the columella area. Over time, the scar fades and becomes less noticeable within a few months.
